Frontend work with HP’s Printer Division in Barcelona to design and develop the next generation of large format printers. Our skills in Product Design, Human Factors Engineering and HCI, enable us to provide design insight across the development spectrum. Our goal with HP is to focus on the total customer experience across all user tasks, from unpacking the printer to daily printing use and service tasks in order to provide a more coherent and user-friendly solution.

Frontend were integrated into the project design team at a very early stage in the product development. Our team carried out risk assessment on the early mechanical prototypes, highlighting potential interaction issues. At this stage the focus is on the Ergonomic performance of the machine for key user tasks. As the development progressed tests were carried out at regular intervals and the focus moved from mechanical design to software interaction and total customer experience.

The scope of our work included the print driver software, web interface and the front panel interaction on the printer itself, as well as mechanical interaction and ergonomics. Frontend also provided expertise in Accessibility compliance (US Section 508) throughout the development cycle.
