GMAC : Risk Management Compass

When GMAC came to Frontend they already had a functioning application. However it was obvious that the User interface was not ready for release.

Project Requirements

System Overview. The system needed effective easy to read overviews and summaries to aid management decisions.

Ease of use. Most of the users access the system intermittently making training ineffective. It was important to ensure that these users could complete limited number of specific tasks unassisted.

Short Timescales. The timescales for development and testing meant that the design portion of the project had to be completed in less than a month from start to finish. Frontend developed a project schedule that made maximum use of collaboration and staged delivery to ensure that the GMAC team could start work at the earliest possible stage.

Design Solution

Flexible and modular. Frontend consultants have extensive experience in developing application interfaces that are easy to modify, extend and re-brand. We used this experience to develop a design that is both flexible and modular, ensuring that it will survive extensive and regular rounds of modifications that are normal in business software products.

Information density. The key to making information systems useful is to transform data into human readable information. We made maximum use of graphics and conditional formatting to reduce the quantity of text and to ensure that user could gain an overview of the system at a glance.

Technical Solution

Easy Global changes. We made extensive use of external style sheets combined with web standard XHTML code to develop high quality templates. The code was designed to make global changes and the inevitable additions and modifications straightforward.

Robust Modular design. The interface components are developed to be modular and robust so that the code can be re-used in new versions or configurations of the system.

GMAC Risk Management Compass has had considerable sales success since it's launch.
